How to find workout buddy, fit friends in new area ??

Wife and I Just moved to a new area and she doesn't know anyone into fitness or bodybuilding. She wants to eventually compete in bikini and feels she needs someone to go through the process with or at least someone who understands and appreciates the lifestyle. Fortunately I don't need a workout buddy to keep me motivated, getting big af and chasing powerlifting PR's is enough for me. How does a female go about finding like minded fitness/bodybuilding/bikini/workout buddies in her area?

Female training question?

Hi all,

I need some help or advice regarding my partner regarding physical training. A brief description of her and her condition:

52 year old
Female
Rode horses when younger and fell off numerous times
Fibromyalgia
Double-jointed / Hypermobile
Always has physical pain and migraines
Never exercises (and thus very weak)
Hardly drinks water
Very sensitive to certain foods and drinks
Irlens Syndrome

Currently, her biggest concern is physical pain. Her body aches and often leads to migraines. I’m trying to get her to drink much more water (around 2 litres a day) and to do some kind of physical exercise. She’s unlikely to go to the gym but she will do some exercise at home. I would like her to do some light weight lifting and increase this over time, but as she is hypermobile, she is reluctant to do this because of the pain. I keep explaining this will make the pain go away over time – she just needs to keep at it.

Do you guys / girls agree she needs to exercise to become supple and make the pain go away? What sort of schedule would you recommend, if I’m correct? Also, are you aware of any supplements or medications / herbs that would help her with the pain?

Any advice is greatly appreciated. As she is 52, she often worries she’ll be in a wheelchair later in life is her pain isn’t addressed. I worry about this too.

Thanks for reading,

Lee.

Seeking advice

Seeking recommendations and advice about tactics or diets they've tried that are unorthodox/nontraditional/unique that will get you lean and shed fat?

I'm a female bodybuilder. I'm 5'3" and 135-140 lbs. Done 2 shows and placed first in both (8% BF in the first and 11% BF in the second), but after my 2nd show and in my attempt for my 3rd, I shot my metabolism and been struggling to lose weight since. I've tried a TON of diets out there and nothing seems to be working. I've had 4 different bodybuilding coaches (well-known in the industry too who say 'come with me and I'll get you where you want to be') in the past 3 years, each given between 6-8 month trials and every coach starts the same - giving me more food 1900+ cals only to cut me to 1,000 cals weeks/months later, or even up my cardo to 2hrs/day - and my body won't break below 130 lbs. (Mind you, when I step on stage, I'm around 117 lbs.) I've tried vegan, carb cycling, low fat diets, low carb diets, water cycling, balanced diets, intermittent fasting, etc. I was a collegiate and professional athlete so I've never been fat and know the work ethic it takes, but for some reason, I'm at a loss for what to do or try next. I get my blood work done every 3 months - everything is "perfect" (from what my doc says) and she can't figure out why I'm unable to shed pounds. I went on thyroid medicine about a year ago because my doc said it was underperforming at the level of workout I was doing, calling me a shade hypo and now I've been in a hyper state on meds for the past 5 months - again without any weight change. Every diet I did for my first two shows to get lean doesn't affect my body now. I've also tried muscle enhancement supps, fat burners, etc. - My body reacts well for muscle gain effects but nothing in fat loss. I hold majority of my weight in my stomach while my limbs stay lean.

Body execise post

If there is one exercise we all love to hate and hate to love it is this one.
A plank is a simple effective body exercise that requires no equipment and can be performed just about anywhere.
Holding your body stiff as a board develops strength primarily in your core - the muscle that connects your upper body and lower body as well as your shoulders, arms.

Her weight loss journey proves anything is possible when you set your heart to it!

Gaining weight can be a difficult thing to go through. While it takes a toll on one's physical health, it can also overwhelm one mentally, and invite unsolicited scrutiny and impact self-esteem. For Poonam Pawar, going through this phase after putting on weight post her second pregnancy was extremely tough. The health complications were reason enough for her to pull up her socks, and get back on track. After working out hard and following a quantified diet, she turned her life around and is now a qualified coach!

Name: Poonam Avinash Pawar

Occupation: Certified Fitness And Nutrition Coach

Age: 33 years

Height: 5 feet 3 inch

City: Bangalore

Highest weight recorded: 94 kg

Weight loss: 34 kgs

Duration it took me to lose weight: 8 months.

The turning point:

While there are usually a lot of breaking points when you are overweight, for me specifically, it was the time when I had put on a lot of weight post my second delivery in 2015, and I weighed 94 kilos. I was living in Bangalore, had a rice-heavy diet and along with that, there was little to no physical activity. The problem slowly worsened, and I started to encounter health issues like breathlessness , low Vitamin D and B12 levels.

That really was the point when I decided to start my weight loss journey and I have never really looked back from that day! I followed a quantified diet plan along with running and resistance training to fight this battle against fat gain and thankfully all my efforts paid off!

Diet followed:

My breakfast: 2 Egg White/1 Ragi Dosa/ Oats/Poha/Sprouts

My lunch: One bowl of dal, one bowl of green and leafy vegetables, Salad ,2 small rotis or one bowl of brown rice and curd.

My dinner: One bowl of brown rice, chicken breast or Paneer and salad.

Pre-workout meal: I take fruit, almonds, and roasted seeds. I have a cup of a black coffee along with my pre-workout meal.

Post-workout meal: Whey protein

I indulge in: A cup of hot black coffee.

Low-calorie recipes I swear by:- Boiled moong Sprouts.

My work out:

I workout for 6 days a week for at least 2 hours every day. My workout routine consists of resistance training and running alternate days.

How do you stay focussed?

To stay on top of my goal and feel motivated ,I have set a screensaver of a model wearing a XS size dress which I want to purchase on my anniversary.

What’s the most difficult part of being overweight?. When you are overweight the most difficult part is for buying clothes. You have reduced your self confidence. Always you feel tired.

What shape do you see yourself 10 years down the line? I want to get stronger and fitter than now.

What lifestyle changes did you make?

I made lots of changes in my lifestyle, including:

1.Sleep Before 10PM to ensure proper seven hour sleep.

2.Keeping myself hydrated.

3.Insure my diet plan includes all macros, vitamins and minerals.

4.Think about nutrition before eating anything.

5.Quiting sugary foods from my diet, especially tea.

What was the lowest point for you?

It was the craving for surgery tea and fried snacks which made me feel very bad. Thankfully I was able to get over them and haven’t had a lot of cravings of late.

Lessons learnt from weight loss

Leg workout

Leg day has a bad rep. Sure, after your first big leg workout you might worry that you’ll never walk again when you wake up with the very worst kind of DOMS, but once you’re over that hump you’ll start to look forward to leg day as a chance to test yourself and burn huge amounts of calories, thanks to the fact you’re using the biggest muscle groups in the body.

The Perfect Push-Up To Build Muscle

According to the study published in Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, the test subjects supported with their hands, on average, 69.16% of their body mass in the up position, and 75.04% in the down position during the traditional push-ups. In modified push-ups, where knees are used as the pivot point, subjects supported 53.56% and 61.80% of their body mass in up and down positions, respectively.

How do you maintain a consistent bodybuilding routine with chronic migraines?

I was wondering how do those of you who have debilitating migraines maintain a consistent fitness routine? I get very bad debilitating migraines anywhere from 1-3 times a week, and there's just no way I can even make it to the gym. I have to skip the day, and carry on the next day, but sometimes I end up having a bad migraine the next day, so that's two days in a row missed.

Looking for advice, do some of you have a pullup bar or something to get exercise in, or what other things do you do?
